I am fortunate to live alongside a coastal marsh and inlet waterway filled with the best nature can offer for this type of environment. Every season different birds and animals wander or fly into our area as they migrate through enroute to their ultimate destinations.
Many stay and nest here, and others like the American Egrets, Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, and countless more, call this part of America their year round home. I intend to share what I see with the Gather community, mostly through photographs, but occasionally I'll venture into the world of essays. . . well maybe. Every one of us lives in a place where nature includes its beauty and mystery. New York's Central Park is a haven for wildlife. The same is true for wherever you live. I'd like to see pictures and artwork that let me and other see what you see, but let's leave people out of it. Unless, of course, they, or you, are directly involved in something like saving injured wildlife, or helping nesting sea turtles. In that case, share what you do with the rest of us. Help us understand why you feel it's important. Here in Coastal South Carolina, we rescue box turtles and snappers who think the roads are passable in the middle of the day. They strut boldly along and, if they are not assisted, often die. We save the too clever Raccoons, the seemly stupid Opossums, injured Bald Eagles, and many others. We provide sanctuary for dozens of different types of birds. My favorite is the shy Painted Bunting. We started out with one nesting pair and now have two or three each spring. If you have created a sanctuary in your yard for birds and or animals, let us see and know about what you've done and why. Every the common Grackle is worth assisting, since bird flu has been eating into their numbers. If you live near a park or a place like our Brookgreen Gardens, let us take a look into these special places too. I'll show off Brookgreen Gardens as time progresses. This is meant to be a positive place, not a negative one, and I hope y'all will honor the spirit behind this meager effort. Group Tags
